Frozen Lemonade: Quench Your Thirst and Boost Your Health

Today, I’m sharing my new favorite drink: Frozen Lemonade! I discovered this over the summer, but I plan to enjoy it the rest of the year too. You will need:

  • 1 Whole Lemon (washed well as we will use the WHOLE LEMON)
  • 3 Dates (pitted)
  • 1 Tablespoon of Honey (I like Raw and Organic)
  • 1 Tablespoon of Olive Oil (Light Tasting)
  • 1 Cup of filtered Water (I use Coconut Water)
  • 1 Cup of Ice
  • 1 Teaspoon of Ginger (Fresh)
  • Dash of Cinnamon ( I use Saigon)

Toss in the whole lemon, the water, the dates, the ginger, the honey and olive oil, and the Dash of Cinnamon. Blend well. Pour over a cup of ice in a beautiful glass for a perfect frosty, yummy treat. 

1. Whole Lemon:
Packed with vitamin C, lemons are known for their immune-boosting properties. They also contain antioxidants and aid digestion, making them a fantastic addition to your daily diet. Using the whole lemon, including the peel, adds dietary fiber, which supports gut health.

2. Dates:
Dates are nature’s candy. They are a great source of energy, loaded with essential nutrients like fiber, potassium, magnesium, and vitamins. Dates provide natural sweetness to the Frozen Lemonade without the need for processed sugars, making it a healthier alternative.

3. Honey:
Raw and organic honey is not just a natural sweetener; it boasts antimicrobial properties and is rich in antioxidants. It can help soothe a sore throat, making it a perfect addition to your Frozen Lemonade, especially during colder months when immune support is crucial.

Chili Peppers – A Power House of Healing

The chili pepper is the fruit of the plant from the genus Capsicum plant, which is a member of the nightshade family, Solanaceae. Chili peppers are considered fruits, not vegetables. Chili peppers are members of the nightshade (Solanaceae) family and are related to tomatoes, cherries and eggplant.

These fiery gems aren’t just spice; they’re a powerhouse of healing!  Let’s explore the incredible benefits of these vibrant wonders that have been cherished for centuries in natural healing practices. Living in the Southwest, Chili Peppers always have a place in our home. From homemade salsas to enchiladas, chili peppers have become a tradition for us. A common question here in New Mexico is ‘red or green’? The correct answer is: “What’s hotter today”? I usually can’t decide and get it Christmas style. Yep, that is both!  Just recently, I have been experimenting with their healing properties. (See 5 Home Remedies Below)

Instructions:

Fresh chili peppers or chili powder
Warm water
Honey (optional)
Instructions:
Mix a pinch of chili powder or finely chopped fresh chili peppers in warm water. Add honey for taste. Drink this concoction to help clear nasal congestion due to colds or allergies. The heat from chili peppers can open up nasal passages.

 

3. Digestive Aid:

Ingredients:
Fresh or dried chili peppers
Ginger
Lemon juice
Honey
Instructions:
Infuse hot water with sliced ginger, fresh or dried chili peppers, and a squeeze of lemon juice. Add honey for taste. This spicy tea can aid digestion by promoting a healthy metabolism.

 

4. Pain Relief for Arthritis:

Ingredients:
Chili pepper powder
Warm olive oil
Beeswax (optional, for making a salve)
Instructions:
Mix chili pepper powder with warm olive oil to create a paste. Gently massage the affected joints. For a more convenient application, you can melt beeswax and mix it with the chili pepper-infused oil to create a salve. Apply the salve topically for arthritis pain relief.

Ingredients:

Instructions:

There are several types of cinnamon available, but two of the most common varieties are Cassia cinnamon and Ceylon cinnamon. The best type of cinnamon to buy depends on your preferences and intended use:

Ceylon Cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum):
Also known as “true” cinnamon.
Considered the premium and more expensive variety.
Sweeter and less spicy compared to Cassia cinnamon.
Contains lower levels of coumarin, a compound that can be harmful in large amounts, making it a safer choice for regular consumption.
Ideal for recipes where a delicate and sweet cinnamon flavor is desired, such as desserts, baking, and sprinkling on beverages.

Cassia Cinnamon (Cinnamomum cassia):
More commonly found in North America and often labeled simply as “cinnamon.”
Has a stronger, spicier flavor compared to Ceylon cinnamon.
